About

Brandon Waite (b. 1986) is a painter working primarily in oils, focusing on figures, portraits, and landscapes. Rooted in a deep appreciation for the physical process of painting, his work explores memory, place, and the quiet resonance of observation.

Based in Nevada, Brandon’s practice is grounded in close looking and deliberate mark-making. He draws inspiration from both the natural and built environments—seeking out the overlooked, the still, the emotionally charged. Whether in the studio or painting on location, he treats each image as an opportunity to slow down and engage with the fleeting texture of experience.

In addition to his painting practice, Brandon brings years of experience as a designer and illustrator, which informs his strong sense of composition and visual storytelling.

artist statement

My work is rooted in the physicality of oil painting—a conversation between tradition and immediacy. I’m drawn to the medium’s depth, its history, and the quiet drama of how color, light, and form unfold across a surface. Each painting begins as an exploration, where instinct and intention meet in the layering of pigment and gesture. I’m interested in what exists beyond the visible image: the weight of memory, the atmosphere of place, the emotional texture of a moment.

Working primarily with figures, portraits, and landscapes, I seek to create images that feel both grounded and luminous—anchored in observation, yet open to interpretation. Lately I’ve been drawn to places—urban edges, roadside stillnesses, places that hold time as much as they hold light.

At the heart of my practice is a belief in the power of looking closely. Whether in the studio or out in the landscape, painting is a way of paying attention, of holding space for what is fleeting, and translating it into something enduring.
